As an Assistant Director of Nursing, the primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility.
Experience & Education:
- Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited school of nursing, college, or university. B.S.N. preferred.
- CPR certified.
- Must have as a minimum, one (1) year experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.
- Assist the DNS with planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Services department, according to state, federal, local and corporate standards and regulations, policy and procedure, and scope of practice. Maintain familiarity with facility organizations and functions of all departments.
- Meets the clinical needs of all residents while promoting positive resident and family relations.
- Contributes to effective communication and pleasant working conditions. Demonstrates leadership. Maximize the potential of each employee supervised.
- Assists with maintaining, reviewing and has input to development of all clinical policies and procedures. Ensures that Nursing policies and procedures are followed.
- Assists with continuously monitoring and reviewing the staffing needs, schedules and work assignments
- Oversees that all nursing assistants are certified and maintains a system to confirm currency and to track required in-service hours yearly to maintain certification as directed by the DNS.
- Oversees that all nurses are licensed and maintains a tracking mechanism to confirm currency as directed by the DNS.
- Makes rounds of each nursing unit and does visual inspection on each unit.
- Ensures that medications are administered, handled, stored, and audited properly.
- Assists the DNS with reviewing satisfaction of care and services by interviews with families and residents.
- Assists the Infection Preventionist in establishing and maintaining the Infection Control Program.
- Assists the Director of Staff Development in ensuring that all mandatory inservice education sessions, which are required by state and federal law, are performed per schedule; documented and such documentation is retained as directed by the DNS.
- Assists the DNS in developing safety standards for the nursing department and monitors these through employee incidents and develops a plan of correction and audit tool for prevention.
- Assist the DNS with Monthly Nursing department staff meetings that are held on all three shifts.
- Participates in surveys and inspections by government agencies and implements plans of correction for deficiencies.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.

As a registered nurse supervisor, you direct the total nursing care activities in the facility during each of shift of duty under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services to ensure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
Experience & Education:
- Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN in this state.
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited school of nursing, college, or university.
- Must be CPR certified.
- Must have as a minimum, one (1) year experience in a hospital, long-term care facility or other related health care facility is preferable.
- Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
- Meet the nursing and rehabilitation needs of each resident.
- Maintain current resident care plans on all residents under his/her care.
- Follow physician’s orders. Renders and/or assists with complete nursing care, treatments, dressings, and other physician orders.
- Transcribe physician’s orders promptly and accurately.
- Review patient records daily to assure accuracy and completeness.
- Document comprehensive and complete nursing notes.
- Maintain accurate awareness of residents on alert list/conduct and document RN assessments as needed.
- Document and report any unusual or significant findings; contact the physician when necessary.
- Administer medication according to procedure if applicable.
- Initiate any and all emergency procedures as necessary.
- Conduct oversight of Charge Nurse and CNA performances.
- Contributes to and promotes positive resident and family relations.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess accurate and comprehensive assessment skills.
- Must have knowledge of restorative nursing and rehabilitation policies and utilizes appropriately.

As a Director of Nursing Services, the purpose of your position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Services Department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility.
Experience & Education:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, college, or university, B.S.N. preferred.
- CPR certified
- Certification in Gerontology is preferred
- Must have at least one (1) year of additional education or experience in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing and one (1) year of nursing administration. Nursing administration is defined as: Registered Nurses employed as Director of Nurses; Assistant Director of Nurses; Supervisor in a chronic and convalescent facility; employment in short-term hospital or chronic disease hospital as Director of Nurses, Assistant Director of Nurses, Supervisor, Staff Development Director, Infection Preventionist.
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the nursing service department, according to state and federal guidelines and scope of patience.
- Maintains and reviews and has input to development of all clinical policies and procedures.
- Develops and implements a nursing service organization structure.
- Determines the staffing needs of the nursing service department, making recommendations to the Administrator, necessary to meet the needs of the residents.
- Oversees licensed nursing staff
- Develops work assignments and schedules duty hours, and/or assists nursing supervisor staff in completing and performing tasks necessary to ensure quality of care.
- Develops and maintains an on-call program for the nursing department.
- Makes daily rounds of each nursing unit and does visual inspection on each unit.
- Reviews satisfaction of care and services with interviews with families and residents.
- Assists the Infection Preventionist in establishing and maintaining the Infection Control Program.
- Assists the Director of Staff Development in ensuring that all mandatory in-service education sessions, which are required by state and federal law, are performed per schedule; documented and such documentation is retained.
- Assists the Administrator in developing safety standards for the nursing department and monitors these through employee incidents and develops a plan of correction and audit tool for prevention. The Director of Nurses is an active member of the Safety Committee.
