Lawrence G. Santilli

President and Chief Executive Officer

The Athena partners is led by founding partner, President and C.E.O., Lawrence G. Santilli. He believed in the overriding principle of “Protecting the Quality of Life,” while maintaining a business model of steady, deliberate growth. Nearly 35 years later, those principles hold true as Athena now operates a network of more than 40 skilled nursing and assisted living centers, and one active adult community, spanning three states.

Mr. Santilli is also a registered lobbyist with the state of Connecticut.  He is widely respected for his financial expertise having extensive experience in the health care industry. His experience is often called upon to educate legislators on various long-term care and senior health issues. He serves as the President of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities and a Board Member of the Massachusetts Senior Care Association.

Mr. Santilli leads a team of highly qualified professionals who bring a diverse background in management experience, covering all facets of health care and business management to the continuum. Their knowledge is deep, their approach creative and informed, and their expertise varied – including day-to-day operations, financial management, regulatory compliance, clinical care, public relations, marketing, and much more.

Michael E. Mosier

Chief Financial Officer

As Athena’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Mosier oversees the overall financial footprint of Athena and its affiliates. Mr. Mosier joined the Athena network in 1988 and has been a leader in its expansion from a manager of several skilled nursing homes to one of New England’s largest manager of skilled nursing centers, assisted and senior living communities, as well as home health and hospice service providers.

Mr. Mosier is a specialist in Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party reimbursement. He is a recognized expert in health care budgeting, acquisitions, financing, financial analysis, as well as developing financial and computerized reporting systems.  He is widely respected for his financial expertise, having more than 35 years of experience in the health care industry.

Uma Rajagopal

Chief Operating Officer

As the Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Rajagopal oversees the total operation of all departments of Athena Health Care Systems. She is responsible for maintaining each facility’s quality of care and ensuring Athena’s Continuum of Care is upheld in alignment with Athena’s vision and mission. Bringing over 20 years of experience in the health care industry, Ms. Rajagopal’s dedication and commitment to the residents and facilities exemplifies her role at Athena Health Care Systems.

Ms. Rajagopal received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in Business Administration. Before joining Athena Health Care Systems, her extensive career in the healthcare industry included the position of Chief Executive Officer and President of Therapy Resources Management, LLC where she increased the company’s annual revenue and successfully oversaw the start-ups of several facilities. Ms. Rajagopal’s extensive knowledge of the health care field combined with her expertise in business administration allows her to ensure Athena Health Care Systems is delivering the highest quality of care possible.

Judy Hyland

Director of Social Services Administration / Corporate Compliance Officer

As one of Athena’s original director’s, Judy is part of Athena’ senior leadership team and serves in a dual role. As the Director of Social Service Administration, Judy oversees the day to day operations of the social work teams in the centers, including compliance with state and federal guidelines, training and regulations, as well as addressing customer service matters throughout the network. Judy has extensive experience in senior care development and management in long term care centers, dementia care units, assisted and independent living communities. Judy holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Judy is also Athena’s Corporate Compliance Officer, overseeing the training and implementation of the company-wide corporate compliance program. The corporate compliance program includes reporting from families, residents, staff throughout the network, as well as vendors and adheres to state and federal regulations governing health care organizations which receive federal state monies.

Marcia Amarsingh

Director of Behavioral Health Services

As the Director of Behavioral Health Services for Athena Health Care Systems, Marcia oversees behavioral services throughout our managed nursing centers. Marcia has an extensive background in Behavioral Health with over 15 years of experience with the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) population. Marcia brings her knowledge to Athena in the development of new policies, training staff in SUD and Behavior Modification, and employing/supervising Substance Abuse Clinicians and Aftercare Coordinators. Marcia is also a member of the network Mock Survey Team.

Tim Brown

Director of Marketing & Communications

Tim originally joined Athena in 1994, as their first Marketing Specialist and created the first iterations of the current Athena website and Athena & You, the network employee newsletter, now distributed to nearly 9,500 employees each month. Over the next 12 years, Tim’s portfolio grew to include Athena’s assisted living communities and other ancillary services, as their Director of Marketing & Public Relations. After a 12 year absence, Tim is back at Athena overseeing the marketing, communications and public relations for the entire Athena Health Care Systems’ network, including it’s digital and social media footprint.

Diane Curtis

Director of Financial Operations

Joining Athena in 1994, Diane has held several positions with Athena and currently serves as our Director of Financial Operations. In this position, Diane is responsible for overseeing the accounts receivables and collections of more than 45 of Athena’s centers. As the Director, her focus is positive cash flow, while working closely with Athena’s management team to address various financial-related issues pertaining to collections, as well as implementing training programs and procedures. Diane is one of the senior-most directors in the organization and has served in leadership capacity of the Connecticut Association of Healthcare Financial Directors.

Paul Dailey

Director of Facility Project Management

Paul joined the Athena network as a center Director of Environmental Services in 2012 and in his current role is responsible for overseeing all renovation and construction projects at all 50 of Athena’s centers, as well as ensuring all projects are completed on-time and within budget. He is also responsible for overseeing the housekeeping and physical plant departments within the network. His background in facilities management has allowed him to grow within the company and develop new programs to improve the well-being of the residents, including the creation of a full-scale dementia driving simulator currently used at one of Athena’s facilities to help patients with Dementia cope with agitation, anxiety, and loss of independence.

Kevin Diehl

Director of Operations and Environment

Kevin brings over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He is currently responsible for the total environmental operations of 50 Athena nursing and assisted living centers, ensuring each center is maintained at the highest level of quality and adheres to both state and local regulations. He has been a part of the Athena team since 2011. Kevin holds a Bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College.

April Foskett

Senior Director of Admissions

April brings an abundance of experience, having been in the healthcare industry her entire career. She has worked in various roles within the field, from dietary to admissions and everything in between. April was a CNA for 13 years before going to nursing school and becoming a staff nurse, where she worked for almost two years at Lanessa Extended Care in the memory care unit. After becoming a staff nurse, she took a position as a clinical liaison within Athena Health Care Systems. She has a passion for connecting with and helping families through difficult transitions. She has been with Athena for five years and was promoted to Senior Director of Admissions for the network in 2018.

Nathan Frisbie

Systems Administrator

Nathan has been with Athena Health Care Systems since 2005. He started as an IT Support Technician and was promoted to Systems Administrator in 2014. From new security technology to protect the company, employees, and patients alike to helping to integrate all buildings and new acquisitions to the corporate network, Nathan has been a major asset to the Athena team. He has expertise in a variety of software and systems programs and received his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology from SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, New York.

Marybeth Hauser

Director of Payroll

Marybeth has been a part of the Athena team since 1986. Starting out in various roles within the Finance department, she was consistently promoted within the department over the years and currently serves as the Director of Payroll for the entire network. She is the leader of a department that is responsible for processing the payroll of nearly ten thousand employees throughout 50 centers and several affiliates.

Lori Hinkson

Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance

Lori has more than 33 years of clinical experience in long term care positions such as unit nurse MDS Coordinator, Director of Nursing Services and Corporate Director of Clinical Services. She joined Athena in 2011 as a Corporate Regional Clinical nurse with oversight of Connecticut and Massachusetts centers. Appointed to her current position in June 2018 as Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, Lori oversees the process of and response to state surveys as well as orientation of new DNS and ADNS orientation in Connecticut. Additionally, Lori has developed and is a facilitator of Athena’s CQI program, and provides review of medical records for finance, legal and quality assurance. Lori is a Registered Nurse licensed in CT and MA.

Julie Koulouris

Corporate Controller

Julie has been with Athena Health Care Systems for 24 years. Starting as a bookkeeper in 1994, Julie has worked her way to multiple promotions within the Finance department, including Accountant, and Accounting Manager. In 2017, she was promoted to Corporate Controller. In her role as Controller, Julie is responsible for overseeing the overall fiscal operations of our 50 centers. Julie oversees the preparation and review of all state and federal cost reports, assisting in the preparation of yearly budgets, and many other obligations that are vital to the total operation of Athena and its managed facilities.

Malcolm Mason

Director of IT/Communications

As the current Director of IT and Communications, Malcolm is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Information Technology team at Athena Health Care Systems. Along with the day to day management of the team, Malcolm is also responsible for overseeing the PCC and electronic charting systems of all Athena managed centers and affiliates. He has been with Athena for 11 years, starting out as a programmer/database analyst. He worked on multiple projects to improve the daily operations of the company such as the development of databases to streamline the month end close process for the Finance department, automatic census reporting, and general center technical support.

Linda Mastrobuono

Director of Policies & Procedures

Linda has over 20 years of experience in the long-term care field. She is a Registered Nurse (RN), licensed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Health Care Association and has been with Athena Health Care Systems since 2011. Starting with the company as the Director of Nursing Services at our Summit center in Rhode Island, Linda received multiple promotions in our management team. Recently, she accepted her current role of Director of Policies and Procedures for Athena Health Care Systems.

Carrie Riposo

Regional Director of Sales and Marketing

Carrie has been with Athena Health Care Systems since 2013. She began her career with us at Athena Hospice Services where she was a volunteer coordinator. She quickly climbed the ladder of success and became a liaison two months after she started. Within a year, Carrie became a Director of Sales and Marketing. She currently serves as the Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, where she creates an everlasting customer experience through excellent care, compassion, and support. Carrie graduated with a double major in Political Science and Biology from Arizona State University.

Dolores Savage

Clinical Education Specialist/Director of Staff Development

Dolores has over 40 years of experience in the Health Care field. She has worked for Athena Health Care Systems since 2013, starting as the Director of Staff Development at Northbridge Health Care Center. A year later, she was promoted to Clinical Specialist of Athena Health Care Systems. Currently, she oversees 46 Athena facilities, managing and coordinating the clinical education of all staff members. Her extensive background in the industry allows her to teach the staff at the highest level of quality possible. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Long Island University and a Master of Science degree in Human Genetics and Genetics Counseling from Sarah Lawrence College.

Barbara Southall

Director of Dementia Program Management

Barbara brings more 12 years of experience in Dementia and Human Services. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), specialized in behavior management for dementia, programming for cognitive deficits/dementia, and specialized environments. Barbara also has specialized training in marketing and community outreach. She has been with Athena Health Care Systems since 2011 as the first Dementia Program Coordinator in the company at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. Her compassion, supportive nature, and commitment to her residents make her an excellent asset to the Athena team. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Salem State College.

Maryann Thorpe

Director of Customer Relations

Maryann brings 30 years of experience in the healthcare field to Athena. She has been with Athena for over six years, previously serving as the Marketing Coordinator for the Massachusetts and Rhode Island centers prior to being promoted to Director of Customer Relations in 2018. Maryann’s positive attitude, ability to multitask, and her strong background in marketing make her a major asset to the Athena team.

Ashley Weber

Director of Clinical Implementation

Ashley has several years of experience in the health care field. She started with Athena at the Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center as a staff nurse and Unit Manager. While at the Tremont facility, Ashley became the Lead Director of Nursing Services where she helped to achieve a five star rating and two year deficiency free survey.
