Athena Health Care Systems Again Ranks in Top 25 Nursing Home Groups in America
The Connecticut-based organization is the largest nursing home provider headquartered in New England.
FARMINGTON, CT. – July 14, 2021 – In a new listing by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) of the Top 30 largest nursing home operators by facility count, Southern New England’s Athena Health Care Systems was again ranked in the 24th spot with 46 facilities in 3 states and more than 6,000 licensed nursing home beds. Athena has consistently made this list for more than 20 years, and is the largest provider headquartered in New England. For decades, Athena has been a major employer in the region with thousands of staff members spread across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
The release of the list coincides with the recent launch of Athena’s “Together… Again” series of events designed to bring families, friends, and the public back into nursing homes. These events come as government restrictions placed on visitations during the height of the pandemic have been adjusted, allowing family members to spend time once again with residents of Athena centers.
“This last year has been a challenge for our residents and for their family members, and that is why we are creating these special moments where loved ones can enjoy spending time together at our Centers safely,” said Larry Santilli, Athena’s President and CEO. “Our staff, residents and their family members are the Athena family, and these “Together Again!” events are our way of getting that family back together in celebration.”
Athena centers began hosting events in June and future events will be held at Athena facilities throughout the Summer, featuring cookouts, live entertainment, food trucks and other special attractions. These events also provide an opportunity for family members to learn about the safety enhancements that have taken place at Athena facilities, and to see for themselves that nursing homes are safer and better than ever, following the once in a generation pandemic. They demonstrate that while the last year and a half have been trying, Athena is delivering on its promise to provide a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable setting for their residents.
