As a Regional Nurse, you will be responsible for varied clinical or clinically related duties that will ensure ongoing regulatory, policy/procedure, and Athena standards compliance resulting in resident care needs being identified and carried out appropriately. The Regional Nurse will function under the direction of and is responsible for carrying out specific duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services. The Regional Nurse may be assigned various facilities to provide direct support, which may require temporarily filling a vacant position in the facility. In this capacity, the Regional Nurse will function within the job description of the vacant position and report to the facility staff person as indicated in that job’s description in addition to the Director of Clinical Services.

Education & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with strong clinical and nursing management experience required.
  • Current RN license in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a management capacity in Long-Term Care.
  • Must have demonstrated capabilities for management, clinical skills and decision making, and supervising along with demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to the operation of a Long-Term Care facility.
  • Background in Substance Use Disorder preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees select facilities as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services; however, may receive additional direction or assignments as deemed necessary by the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Work constructively to provide support to facilities to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and Athena standards of practice.
  • Serve as a resource for facility Administrators, Directors of Nurses, and other nursing management staff.
  • The Regional Nurse makes both announced and unannounced visits to facilities on any/all shifts to review clinical or clinical-related processes, conduct audits, or provide education to facility staff.
  • Conduct ongoing audits in the facility to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, facility policies and procedures, and to ensure resident care needs are met. Audit findings are recorded, along with a suggested action plan for improvement, and reviewed with the Administrator and Director of Nurses. Follow up audits are conducted to review corrective actions taken and ongoing compliance maintained.
  • Forward copies of all audits and reports to the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Visits the facility during the annual survey and assists the facility as appropriate during the survey process.
  • Review all statements of deficiencies for their assigned facilities, providing assistance to facility management in the areas of developing comprehensive plans of correction, education, and ongoing audits to ensure continued compliance with plans of correction.
  • Review facility Quality Indicators and Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program. Determines if appropriate plans/programs are in place for identified concerns and improvement.
  • Coordinate, conduct and/or oversee educational workshops and comprehensive orientation of Directors of Nursing and other nursing management. Provides ongoing mentoring of personnel.
  • May assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of all established policies and procedures as directed by the Director of Clinical Services. Reviews compliance with policies and procedures during facility visits.
  • Communicate and works with other Regional Nurses, Regional Risk Management Nurses, and other disciplines to ensure consistent interpretation of policies and procedures and to coordinates activities to avoid duplication of efforts and efficient use of resources.
  • May temporarily fill vacant positions in facilities as directed by the Director of Clinical Services. When doing so, is responsible for performing all duties associated with that position’s job description and works under the direction of both the person designated in that job description as well as the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Knowledgeable in and complies with the Privacy Rule. Ensures facility staff comply with privacy practices and protect residents’ health information.
  • Keeps the Director of Clinical Services well informed of scheduled visits, progress, issues, or concerns during visits or through communication with facilities.
