Treating residents, patients and staff like family

Employees choose Athena Health Care Systems because they share our common goal of providing the best care to our patients. We in turn strive to provide the best care and work environment to our employees.

We foster employee growth and wellness, and we understand the importance of enjoying where you work!

  • Our diversity is our strength!
  • Annual Taking Care of Our Own Softball Tournament.
  • You’re not alone – we enjoy higher staffing levels at our centers
  • Transfer within the Athena network and maintain your seniority
  • Career Ladders advancement opportunities
  • Employee Wellness Program

Since our founding in 1984, Athena Health Care Systems has encouraged and promoted a culture focused on developing and preserving diversity, equity, and inclusion – for our residents and their families, and our team of caregivers. Athena believes that the diversity of our caregivers allows for better care of our long-term care residents and short-term care patients. Throughout our daily work, our patients, residents, and their families put their trust in our hands. And, by doing so they deserve to always be treated with the utmost respect and compassion.

We embrace our employees’ differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our employees unique.

The collective sum of the individual differences – life experiences, knowledge, beliefs, unique abilities, and talent that our employees invest in our centers and affiliates represents a significant part of not only our culture, but our reputation and accomplishments.

All employees within the Athena network have a responsibility to always treat co-workers and their patients, residents, and families with dignity and respect. Employees who believe they have been subjected to or witness any kind of discrimination that conflicts with our mission should seek assistance from a supervisor, human resources manager, or their administrator.

Athena Health Care Systems’ centers provide a comprehensive orientation program for all new employees; both general orientation to their center and job-specific orientation. Our orientation programs are provided both virtually and in person and are designed to provide the new employee with the training and education needed to deliver the best in resident care and customer service to our residents and their families.

All mandatory state and federal requirements are met during initial employee orientation. These topics are presented to ensure employees provide quality care and understand the expectations of their role. Following orientation, a comprehensive review of needed skills/competencies is provided to assure each employee performs their tasks at the highest level.

Growing From Within

Athena also offers various opportunities for career advancement to its staff as well as scholarship programs for those looking to advance their career within our organization. Through employee input, we are strengthening and expanding these opportunities to help employees grow, both professionally and personally. Many of our Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) have gone on to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs), as well as serve in other management roles in our centers. Throughout our network, it is commonplace that our managers were grown from within: Directors of Dining Services who began as a Dietary Aide, Housekeeping, and Environmental Managers who started their careers with us as assistants.

To learn more about career advancement opportunities, please contact the Athena Human Resources Department at (860) 751-3900.

When it comes to our employees, we believe no one does it better than Athena. Not only do we continually strive to be the best in the care and services we provide to our patients and their families, we aim to be the employer of choice. Athena centers staff above the state and regional averages for skilled nursing centers and employ regional support teams to provide an additional level of assistance, when needed.

In addition to higher staffing levels at our centers, we also believe in treating our employees with the dignity and respect they deserve, going above and beyond what most employers provide when it comes to our exceptional and generous benefits, as well as competitive wages. Employees choose Athena centers because they share our common goal of providing the best care to our patients and they know our reputation. They stay with Athena because of the outstanding working environment, benefits, career advancement opportunities and much more.

Partners in Dedication – Athena Honors Employees

Each June, Athena Health Care Systems hosts our “Partners in Dedication” luncheon ceremony to honor employees throughout the Athena network who reached their 10, 20 and 30 years of service as of December. We typically recognize more than 100 employees each of the past 20 years this program has been in place. As well as enjoying a meal at a beautiful venue, employees are recognized for their dedication and commitment for providing quality care to residents and patients.

Athena Health Care Systems complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
