As the Business Office Manager, you assist in the day-to-day accounting function of the facility in accordance with current applicable accounting and cost reimbursement principles relating to the long-term care operations, and as may be directed by the Administrator or Accountant. Education & Experience:
  • Must possess an associate’s degree in Accounting and/or an equivalent of two (2) years training and experience in health care accounting, billing & collections.
  • Must have as a minimum two (2) years experience in bookkeeping or accounting practice.
  • Experience in health care accounting preferred but not required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Bill and Collect all Patient Accounts.
  • Balancing and updating monthly closing.
  • Communicate all potential Patient AR Account issues with Administrator.Supervise and oversee employee with regard to training of job functions, hiring, and firing and employee performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all job descriptions within the department.Discuss billing situations with residents and/or responsible parties.
  • Stay current with intermediary procedural changes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports, including all accounts, journals, deposits, ledgers, etc.
  • Maintain accurate census data.
  • Secure all cash and valuables on hand, per policy.
  • Oversees and supervises Assistant Business Office Bookkeeper.

  • Must possess, as a minimum, an Associate Degree with major emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation—or be a candidate in an accredited degree program with proof of enrollment and ultimately, completion of a program in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Must be a qualified Therapeutic Recreation Director who is credentialed by the State of Connecticut.
  • Experience working with Alzheimer’s and Dementia residents in a healthcare setting preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assists in plans and provisions of patient care by visiting residents regularly to evaluate needs.
  • Document and report the nursing department any unusual or significant findings.

Another important initiative at Athena is the Taking Care of Our Own Fund, which provides financial assistance to our employees who are undergoing active cancer treatments. Athena Health Care Systems’ centers provide a comprehensive orientation program for all new employees; both general orientation to their center and job-specific orientation. Our orientation programs are provided both virtually and in person and are designed to provide the new employee with the training and education needed to deliver the best in resident care and customer service to our residents and their families.

All mandatory state and federal requirements are met during initial employee orientation. These topics are presented to ensure employees provide quality care and understand the expectations of their role. Following orientation, a comprehensive review of needed skills/competencies is provided to ensure each employee performs their tasks at the highest level.
